Table of ContentsKnott’s Berry Farm
Knott’s Berry Farm Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, California, hotels and food - mouth-watering, piping hot chicken drowning in gravy with boysenberry pie and butter-milk cookies for lunch and a royal dinner in a gladiator ring. But before that, a short introduction for Buena Park, it’s history and people. Buena Park is all about the Knotts - Knott’s Berry Farm, Knott’s Resort hotel, Knott’s Avenue, Knott’s Berry Farm Chicken Dinner Restaurant, Knott’s MarketPlace…You can’t walk around Beach Boulevard without tripping over one of them and if you’re on Knott’s Avenue, well, you’re on it, ain’t you?
Walter Knott and his wife Cordelia moved to Buena Park in 1920 to farm 20 acres of rented land. Today, that same land, spread over 160 acres, houses Knott’s Berry Farm, with its wooden roller coasters and thrill rides. Buena Park, with its advantageous location minutes away from LA, gets a ton of tourists from all parts of the country and the world who come in to see Disneyland, Beverly Hills and the surrounding beaches and attractions. I was one of this horde, and while I’m no fan of roller coasters, I made my way over since I was there and had nothing better to do. Wading through the crowd, I realized this was not what I had in mind for a vacation, and detoured to the Chicken Dinner restaurant - Only to find another huge crowd…But the mashed potatoes, gravy and sizzling chicken, along with fresh vegetables, a slice of pie and buttermilk biscuits made me forget about all the people and I dug into the food. Wiped it clean and woved to be back for another round. This is my kind of vacation…. Post lunch I made my way to some other places close by, including the Ripley Believe It or Not museum, with a totally gross pig with 8 legs and man with a unicorn on exhibit. Wandering around, I found that the town heads to the Medieval Dinner in the evening, and managed to book myself a ticket. Seems it’s a WWF kinda gig, with Knights in armor dueling in the ring, while you enjoy dinner in tables set around the ring. http://www.ripleysbp.com/ , http://www.medievaltimes.com/ But before that, I had to find my hotel around 3 p.m., and no big surprise - It’s a Knott! I checked into the Knotts Berry Farm Resort and it was surprisingly nice. Specially after the Best Western Inns at Visalia and Sunnyvale that were my previous shelters. The Knott resort was plush and spacey, with a big pool, lots of greenery, spa, shopping an whatnot, along with a room outfitted with everything a geek might possibly need - From satellite television to a data port to a cofee maker. My opinion of Buena Park California hotels just went up several notches. I’m off to some heads roll with the Knights and their duels. And another round of chicken and pie at Buena Park’s best restaurant.
